Lorna Does Val Thorens

Lorna Dalgleish

Age: 21

Home Mountain: Aviemore, Cairngorms.

Hometown: Glasgow

Has the last season been your best ever?: Yeah! Met some amazing people and seen some crazy places!

What do you ride?: Rome hardwear and Volcom outerwear.

Sponsors?: none ????.

Do you think the language barrier will be a problem?: nah! I have found that most problems i have faced in foreign countries are solved by buying them a pint.

Where would you do a dream season?: I really want to go to west coast America/Canada, spend a season working my way up the Rockies! Thats what i plan on doing this season!

What’s challenging about Woman’s boarding now: WOMEN are the most challenging thing about womens boarding! i think some of us girls have the wrong attitude towards the sport, too worried about how they look, what other riders think of them or trying to keep up with the boys! As long as your having fun, nothing else matters!

What are your hopes & dreams?: my dream would be to ride all over the world and compete, i get such a buzz from riding in comps with new people from different parts of the country/world. I hope that i can keep improving and make that dream a reality.

First 5 songs on shuffle:
Hugh Hardie - Speeding Cars
Borgore - Sleepyhead
The Prototype - Follow me
Smokelife - other words (love this track!)
Huey Lewis and the news - its hip to be square (oh lord how did that get in there...)

What tips would you give other snowboarders?: Ride it like you stole it!

Message for future sponsors: sponsorship is definitely more than just a two way street and its not about getting free shit and wearing it for them, you gotta believe in it, treat it more than just a product, its a lifestyle. In return you gotta believe in me. Anyone can blag some free shit, i want the opportunity to earn your respect.

Val Thorens Blog:

First day! almost two feet of fresh last night! unfortunately the park was closed today for the NorthFace ski BigAir. No boarders allowed! Probably a good thing to be honest, i have a habit of injuring myself being stupid on the first day!

I couldn't let all this fresh go to waste! So, transceiver in hand, i hiked at about 2900 metres for thirty mins and found fresh powder, cliff drops and wind lips galore! It really was the best feeling in the world! ...hmm well apart from the 100 metre ragdoll! really wouldn't want to relive that one.

At about 4pm the weather closed in, so we headed back to the town to scope out some jibs in the town then for a cheeky €6 pint :S

Day 2 was awesome, firstly: it was my birthday and second because it was blue skies and fresh powder! We we're meant to go to the park but hiking had to be done! We got some snowmobiles and raced them up the piste! one of the craziest experiences! The dude even made us go over a kicker! A great end to and awesome birthday!

Day three was sooo windy in the morning, i was up and ready for first chair! i was a bit dissapointed to find apon reaching the top some ice and 80Km winds. Gutted. We hiked for a bit and found some awesome untouched powder out of the wind.

Tomorrow looks set for better weather so probably hit the park (if it has been reshaped after the no0b skiers destroyed it the other day!) if its another poor day for weather we have some jibs in town we can set up, like some big concrety-thingy-a-ma-bob.

Day4: Argg! park was closed again! apparently it is being reshaped for another ski competition in a few days. Oh well, the weather was a bit rubbishy this morning so took it easy and then went in search of more powder! Although there was some bad weather, it brought with it tonnes of snow! :) Todays weather would have made for some funky photographs, but this was the best I could come up with!

Day5: The visibility was a bit pants today in the morning so we took the opportunity to ride in the panda suits :p

In the afternoon the park was finally open! pretty much just rode that till last chair. Hitting it up again tomorrow for our last days riding. Hope you like the pictures, hopefully get some better ones tomorrow with better visibility.

Day6 was our last day :( it was lovely blue skies and i just spent the whole day riding the park :D perfect end to an awesome holiday. If anyone was thinking on going to Val Thorens I would definitely recommend it! Possibly the best place I have ever ridden!
